What We Do
We recruit, train, and lead teams of diverse volunteers to work on pro-bono consulting projects that help solve our clients' most critical challenges. A typical ten week project leverages the passions and talents of a team of skilled professionals, providing over 400 hours of services and an average market-rate value of more than $75,000. We also strive to empower the personal and professional development of our volunteers.

Consultant and Project Manager Perspective

Through SeedSF, you’ll expand your professional and social network, gain hands-on/real-world experience, stay active during a job search or retirement, and contribute to building a more sustainable future for our communities and planet.

What to Expect as a Consultant or Project Manager
Structure:
Seed volunteers are grouped into small teams - typically 4-5 consultants and a project manager - assigned to a single client with a specific goal to solve a client’s problem outlined in a statement of work. Clients are generally local Bay Area nonprofits with a sustainability focus. The team has ten weeks to conduct research and produce deliverables that solve the problem outlined in the SOW.
Teams meet once or twice a week to discuss the project and share research. PMs will assign specific research or tasks to each consultant to complete by the next meeting. Expect to spend 1-2 hours in team meetings and an additional 2-3 hours completing individual assignments each week
Community:
While PMs are expected to meet with the client each week, consultants have an opportunity to gain more insight into the nonprofit world through at least two touchpoints with the client - a midcycle presentation, showing the team’s progress at the halfway point, and a final presentation sharing the team’s deliverables and recommendations with the client at the end of the cycle.
Networking:
SeedSF hosts multiple social and networking events each cycle. Joining Seed also provides access to an alumni network of over 1,000 former volunteers.
Professional Development:
Seed offers an opportunity to get real world experience in new areas in a lower-stakes environment. Additionally, Seed has offered skill development sessions in areas such as SCRUM Master training, career panels with sustainability professionals, and resume curation sessions.
